Romeo and juliet movie versions4/7/2024 ![]() In the 2013 version, the play is introduced with a jousting match between the Capulets and the Montagues with a narrator reading the first four line of the prologue, being very careful to not spoil the conclusion of the movie. Perhaps the largest difference between the versions is a change in the introduction, and how they shape the beginning of the film, both attempt very different things. Overall, there are a plethora of differences between the versions (some of which I list below), but in the fallowing paragraphs, I will focus on a few key differences between the films. The 2013 version is a new take on the classic, while the 1968 version stays very close to the original play. The 2013 version takes many more risks, it adds new motivations or completely changes some characters and scenes. Most of the lines are the same and almost every event plays the same way as in the play. ![]() ![]() The 1968 version is much more tide and true to the original play. Both versions seem very similar in design, they both keep the same characters, and main events of Shakespeare’s work, however, under the surface they are VERY different. In this article I will be comparing two interpretations of the play, one from 1968, and one from 2013. Romeo and Juliet is a classic piece of literature, it is one of the best known plays and is well loved as a piece of theatrical genius.
